With funding from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) the Science for
Life program has a mission "to strengthen and transform undergraduate research
and interdisciplinary laboratory education in the life sciences" at the
University of Florida (UF) and our partner institutions. Administered through
the campus-wide UF Honors Program and Office of the Provost, it will enhance
early undergrad research, faculty recognition and opportunities, and transform

The largest early undergrad research program at UF and in the State of Florida.
The HHMI Science for Life intramural program provides opportunities for students to engage in
multi-year research projects starting the summer following their freshman year

The HHMI Science for Life extramural program provides opportunities for a select number of high
ability juniors and seniors to undertake research projects outside of UF at
Scripps-Florida and international partner institutions.
Freshmen and
Sophomores!!!!!! You can now register for the new, one credit IDH3931
Science for Life course that will help you prepare for
research. Participation in this course this fall will comprise one
element we will review in the competition for at least 70 research

HHMI Graduate Student Award: The first award of its type at UF. Provides recognition for graduate student mentors who publish with undergraduate co-authors. More ... Click here for application.
HHMI Undergraduate Core Laboratory (HHMI-UCL): The HHMI-UCL provides an integrated sequence of
accelerated early-undergraduate laboratory courses in a new state-of-the-art
laboratory located in the heart of the UF Health Science Center. This new
sequence of chemistry, biology, and physics courses will be taught using an
interdisciplinary approach. More ...
Science Education Minor:
An 18 credit science education minor has been developed for students majoring in
any scientific discipline. Successful completion of the minor will qualify
students for a Florida teaching certificate and allow them to take teaching
positions statewide. More ...
Teaching Postdocs:
Teaching postdoctoral fellowships will prepare life scientists for academic
teaching positions. Each 2-year fellowships are in collaboration with Morehouse
College and Scripps-Florida. More soon.

Summer High School Teacher Training:
A summer research and professional training program for high school
science teachers, selected from Alliance High Schools, a group of six
underperforming schools located in diverse urban settings in Jacksonville,
Orlando, and Miami. More soon.
